Psychotherapy
Therapy is an effective way to treat many mental health disorders, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and ADHD. Psychotherapy has been proven to improve the effectiveness of psychiatric treatments and may be recommended by your provider as part of your treatment plan. At our psychiatry office, Advanced Brain and Body Clinic, located in Golden Valley, MN, we offer psychotherapy in group or individual settings.
Group Therapy
We offer group therapy sessions on a variety of mental health and wellness topics on Thursdays from 3-4pm.
May 1st: The Importance of Self-Care for Mental Health: Research shows that self-care improves immunity, increases positive thinking, makes us less susceptible to stress, depression, and anxiety, and can contribute to long-term feelings of general well-being. Learn more about the importance of self-care, discover what self-care looks like for you, and find ways to build self-care into your schedule.
May 8th: Self-Forgiveness and Healing: Forgiving yourself can be hard when you’re carrying around a sense of blame for something that has happened in the past. This bundle of negativity burrowing deep inside yourself can cause a never-ending sense of unhappiness. This group will look at ways to learn how to forgive yourself and move toward healing.
May 15th: How to Break Your Emotional Attachment to Stuff
Breaking emotional attachments to possessions isn’t easy, but it’s worth the effort. Recognize the emotional patterns behind your attachments to clutter and take gradual steps toward change. The space and peace you’ll gain are far more meaningful than any physical object could provide.
May 22nd: Navigating Your Ketamine Experience
Ketamine is a medication that is gaining ground as a promising treatment for some cases of major depression. This group will focus on how it works, techniques used, possible side effects, and tips on how to maximize your experience.
May 29th: Understanding Depression and Managing Your Symptoms
Depression can happen to anyone. In fact, one in four of us will experience depression at least once during our lives. Your biological makeup, upbringing, or reaction to life events can increase your likelihood of experiencing depression. What keeps it going, though, is how we deal with our circumstances. The way we think and what we do affect the way we feel.
June 5th: Why Letting Go Is So Hard
It’s normal to have difficulty recovering from trauma or pain from the past. Just because the experience is over doesn’t mean you haven’t been deeply affected. It can take time to recognize and understand what’s happened and what it means for you. Letting go can be scary, but it can also be an act of freedom and healing.
June 12th: Understanding Anger
Anger is our emotional response to external or internal events perceived as a threat, violation, or injustice. Coping strategies will be discussed.
June 19th: 7 Habits of Mentally Strong People
Just as some people are destined to be physically strong, some people are naturally mentally strong. However, even if you’re not one of those fortunate people, you can build emotional strength. This group will focus on the seven habits that help develop mental strength.
June 26th: Building Healthy Self-Esteem
Self-esteem is the opinion we develop about ourselves and our ability to handle life’s many challenges to achieve happiness and success. This group will focus on identifying ways to raise your self-esteem and feel confident about who you are.
July 3rd: Dealing with Stress
Stress is a feeling of being under abnormal pressure. It can affect us physically, emotionally, and in varying intensities. This group will focus on identifying causes of stress in your life and coping strategies that you can use to manage your stress.
July 10th: What Is Mindfulness & What Is Its Impact on Mental Health?
Mindfulness means paying attention to the present moment, without judging or trying to change it. This involves observing your thoughts, feelings, and sensations without getting caught up in them. Understanding and learning about this powerful concept can improve many areas of your life, including mental health, relationships, and resilience to stress.
July 17th: Positive Thinking Skills
Positive statements encourage us and help us cope through distressing times. We can say encouraging words to ourselves and be our own personal coach. This group will focus on the importance of positive thinking and its impact on mental health.
July 24th: no group therapy session
July 31st: Clutter and Trauma
When a person experiences traumatic events, they build protective walls as a coping mechanism to shield themselves from the outside world. Having their belongings nearby gives them a sense of control that is more important than having a clean house. Clutter and trauma have a complex relationship, but that doesn’t mean it has to be permanent; a clutter-free life is possible.
August 7th: no group therapy session
Individual Therapy
Our mental health counselors also offer individual therapy on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Contact us today to schedule an individual therapy appointment.
